After 43 days, the lengthiest US government shutdown in history has concluded.

Public sector staff will begin getting pay once more. Federal parks will resume operations. Federal operations that had been reduced or suspended entirely will recommence. Aviation services, which had become a nightmare for many Americans, will go back to being merely frustrating.

"He thought he would fracture the GOP, and his opponents defeated him," Trump said of the Democratic senator.

While on occasion when the leader looked like yielding – last week he criticized majority party members for rejecting the removal of the legislative delaying tactic to resume operations – he eventually came out from the stoppage having made little in the way of meaningful compromises.

While his poll numbers have declined over the past month, there exists a year before the majority party have to encounter the electorate in the midterms. And, barring some kind of fundamental legal change, Trump never has to worry about running for office in the future.
