Former US treasury secretary Larry Summers is leaving the governing body at the ChatGPT creator, just days after a batch of emails between him and deceased financier the disgraced billionaire became public.

He stated in a release that he was "appreciative for the privilege to have served, enthusiastic about the promise of the organization, and anticipate tracking their advancement".

The former Harvard president, who once led Harvard University, stated on recently that he would be stepping back from public roles due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

The newly public emails showed that the economist corresponded with the financier until the day before the financier's 2019 detention for accused human trafficking of minors.

In another announcement, the AI firm expressed it respected Summers' determination to step down.

This development arrives after the two houses of the legislative branch agreed on this week to approve a bill that would mandate the US justice department to make public its files on Epstein.

The legislation will afterward head to the administration of US President Donald Trump for endorsement. The President has said he expects to endorse the legislation, after modifying his view on the subject following pushback from his followers.

A group of Epstein-connected correspondence disclosed by the House Oversight Committee days ago mentioned multiple well-known personalities in the billionaire's previous network, without implying any criminal activity by those figures.

The emails revealed that Summers and Epstein regularly had dinners together, with he often trying to link the official to influential global figures.

After the messages were released with the public, he stated he accepted "total ownership for my misguided decision to maintain corresponding with Mr Epstein".

He added that he hoped "to rebuild trust and fix connections with the persons nearest to me".

Following Summers' statement on Monday, the policy organization, a progressive think tank in Washington where Summers was a prominent member, verified that he was not affiliated with the group.
