A Patriotic Colour Scheme and Familiar Logo

The fresh design showcases a patriotic design to reflect the Union Flag and will be applied on GBR trains, at railway stations, and across its digital platforms.

Notably, the symbol is the well-known double-arrow symbol presently used by the national rail network and originally designed in the 1960s for British Rail.

The Rollout Timeline

The phased introduction of the design, which was developed internally, is expected to take place gradually.

Travellers are set to start spotting the newly-branded services on the national network from the coming spring.

Throughout December, the visuals will be displayed at major railway stations, like Glasgow Central.

A Journey to Public Ownership

The Railways Bill, which will enable the formation of GBR, is presently making its way through the House of Commons.

The government has argued it is taking control of the railways so the system is "owned by the passengers, working for the people, not for corporate interests."

GBR will consolidate the running of train services and tracks and signals under a unified structure.

The department has said it will unify seventeen separate entities and "cut through the problematic bureaucracy and lack of accountability that hinders the railways."

Digital Features and Existing Ownership

The introduction of Great British Railways will also feature a comprehensive mobile application, which will enable customers to see train times and book tickets absent booking fees.

Accessibility users will also be have the option to use the app to book assistance.

Several franchises had already been nationalised under the previous government, including LNER.

There are currently 7 train operators now in public control, covering about a one-third of rail travel.

In the past year, South Western Railway have been brought into public ownership, with additional operators expected to be added in 2026.

Official and Sector Response

"This is more than a cosmetic change," commented the Transport Secretary. It represents "a fresh start, casting off the frustrations of the previous system and concentrated entirely on delivering a proper passenger-focused service."

Rail representatives have responded positively to the pledge to improving the passenger experience.

"The industry will carry on to cooperate with industry partners to facilitate a seamless transition to GBR," a senior figure said.
